Pivots Wood Heating Star Rating Program

Pivot Stove & Heating have set up our own internal way of comparing the wood heaters by efficiency and back in 2006 we made a decision to advertise the testing results of all wood heaters.

These emissions are listed on every page on our web site - and on every heater in our showrooms - each heater we list the emissions and efficiency results - this is managed by the Australian Home Heating Association ( AHHA )

The Australian Home Heating Association has instituted a robust Certification Procedure to ensure that wood heater models offered for sale comply with the current Australian/New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 4012/4013.

All wood heaters listed comply with:

AS/NZS 4012:1999 "Domestic solid fuel burning appliances - Method for determination
 of power output and efficiency"
and
AS/NZS 4013:1999 "Domestic solid fuel burning appliances - Method for determination
of flue gas emission"

These results are publicly available on the Australian Home Heating Association web site www.homeheat.com.au

Understanding the Hype

The new Australian Standards have changed the way wood heaters need to be tested

Emissions - this is the amount of Carbon your wood heater produces into the atmosphere

The lower the emission your heater has, the less impact it has on the environment

.

Efficiency - this is how your wood converts the fire into heat

The Higher the efficiency your wood heater is, the less wood you need to burn to heat your home

.

At Pivot, we have always been focused on giving you the right information to help you choose the right wood heater for your home

We are focused in showing BOTH the emissions and efficiency as well as burn times

Pivots Efficiency Rating Program

New standards now force manufacturers to show the efficiency of their heaters.

Every 10% a wood heater is more efficient works out to be approx 1Ton of wood less you need to burn per year

If you had 2 heaters...both offering the same heat output, and both offering the same emissions,  one at 55% efficient and the other at 65% efficient;

The Heater at 65% efficient would burn approx 1Ton of wood less per year...

To help you work out the best heater - our Pivot Efficiency Star Program shows the efficiency of every Wood Heater as shown:

  • 6 Stars : 100% > 75% Efficency
  • 5.5 Stars : 74% > 73% Efficiency
  • 5 Stars : 72% > 71% Efficiency
  • 4.5 Stars : 70% > 69% Efficiency
  • 4 Stars : 68% > 67% Efficieny
  • 3.5 Stars : 66% > 65% Efficiency
  • 3 Stars : 64% > 63% Efficiency
  • 2.5 Stars : 62% > 61% Efficiency
  • 2 Stars : 60% > 59% Efficieny
  • 1.5 Stars :58% > 57% Efficieny
  • 1 Star :  56% > 55% Efficiency

 Pivots Emissions Rating Program

Our 1 MILLON TON Program has been focused to reduce carbon emissions be everyone of us making an educated choice in the wood heaters impact on the environment.

The lower the emissions, the less impact your wood heater has in the environment

The New Australian Standards have lowered the emission requirements wood heaters must comply to - it's now 2.5Grms to every 1Kg of wood your heater burns

To help you work out the best heater - our Pivot Emission Star Program shows the efficiency of every Wood Heater as shown:

      • 6 Stars : 0.0grms > 0.5grms
      • 5.5 Stars : 0.6grms > 0.7grms
      • 5 Stars : 0.8grms > 0.9grms
      • 4.5 Stars: 1.0grms > 1.1Grms
      • 4 Stars : 1.2grms > 1.3Grms
      • 3.5 Stars : 1.4grms > 1.5grms
      • 3 Stars : 1.6grms > 1.7grms
      • 2.5 Stars : 1.8grms > 1.9grms
      • 2 Stars : 2.0grms > 2.1grams
      • 1.5 Stars : 2.2grms > 2.3grms
      • 1 Star : 2.4grms > 2.5grms

      Pivots Burn Time Program

There is a lot of hype that these "new cleaner burning heaters" don't burn overnight anymore...

      This is completely wrong

      • Some heaters burn over night - Some don't

New Generation Wood Heaters now include technology that makes your wood heater not only burn cleaner, but burn longer

To know how long your next heater will burn, we have come up with a very simple rating system

      • 4 to 6 Hour Burn Time
      • 6 to 8 Hour Burn Time
      • 8 to 10 Hour Burn Time
      • 12 to 12 Hour Burn Time
      • 12+ Hour Burn Time

Our burn time test was based a full firebox load of good dry hard wood with a moisture level between 15 to 18%

This is not an industry standard

This is not an industry standard - but our way of trying to explain the best performing heaters on the market

The Australian standard requires heaters to have a maximum of 2.5grms of Co2 per 1Kg of wood burnt - at Pivot we are promoting heaters in our Low Carbon Program any heater that is 1grm or less.. promoting heaters that are half the Australian Standards

Where we list a number of models on one web page - we calculate the average of all the models and list the average results...

Please refer to our specifications page to get the exact specifications of each model listings ; or the Home Heating Association Web Site www.homeheat.com.au

You have the power to make a change...

We are proud to have the opportunity in our lifetime to not only have the knowledge that WE CAN make the changes for our children - but have the resources in my hands to do something about this

If you buy a heater from Pivot or not.. this is not the concept here - but to make it known that there is a choice you can make that will impact for the future

Ask: with your next purchase - what is the emission of the new heater you are looking at : by a simple choice of buying a heater with 1gms or less - this alone will reduce your carbon foot print (over a 15year life expectancy) of 10ton less of carbon emissions

Ask: with your next purchase - what is the efficiency of the new heater you are looking at ; a heater with 55% efficiency compared to a heater with a 75+% efficiency will use 2 ton a year less wood...
